19 January 2003: Big Raspberry Noises

Dragon Lady and I went to visit the Khan and Speaks Like Silence last night, for a lovely dinner of chicken adobo.  Taarna, Galahad, and Grace came over, too.  Grace is walking.  She sticks out her tongue and makes big raspberry noises and cracks herself up.  This is adorable, except when she does it with a mouthful of food.  Dragon Lady taught her to give high fives.

After dinner we talked about conflicts among friends (there have been some on the Moot Zoo of late, and elsewhere).  Our Pack is a family, and we've been known to fight like a family.  And like a family, it's worth it, for reasons that I'm absolutely clear on but can never quite state or remember.

These three quotations can speak my piece for me, for now - if not better than I could have spoken it myself, then at least well enough to suit my purposes on a lazy Sunday evening...

"Conflict can be resolved, it will be resolved.  You can do it.  You must do it.  Things are very fragile. Relationships are very, very fragile.   This whole thing seems solid, feels solid, is solid.   But it can all end in an instant.  The more you understand this, the greater the delicacy with which you will treat one another and yourself."

"The proper office of a friend is to side with you when you are in the wrong.  Nearly anybody will side with you when you are in the right."

-Mark Twain

"Despite all their bickering and crisis, they always brought with them an urgent, sweaty sense of purpose."
