5 November 2003: Mr. Fawkes' Neighborhood

Remember, remember, the Fifth of November...

Boom! Happy Guy Fawkes Day!

Celebrate Guy Fawkes Day by doing your part, large or small, to shake the foundations of Empire! I began my celebration this morning by writing a letter to the Mayor, trying to get him to appoint Dragon Lady to the Fair Campaign Practices Commission.

Writing projects update: given the enormous load of classes I'm going to be taking for the next decade, and the additional time required for aikido, yoga, and paratheatrical ritual work, my larger writing projects are on hold until I have my Ph.D. In the case of the nonfiction books, this is a good idea anyway, since having the Ph.D. will make it easier to market the stuff, and since much of my schooling will also serve as further research which will ultimately make the books that much better. In the case of the novels... well, I'll just have to be patient.

But I'll have writing time in the summers, so I can take on small projects. Following a stimulating Kabbalistic conversation with Wonderboy on Halloween night, I'm beginning a short work on the Qliphoth, which I'm researching now and will mostly write up next summer. I spent the past couple of days in an extended email exchange with my dad (who was forced to learn Hebrew as a child and kindly chose not to inflict the same upon me), picking apart the discrepancies between the traditional translations of the Hebrew names of the Qliphoth, and what those names actually mean.

Got an email from Mom, too, about her Tai Chi practice. She led class for the first time. Yay, Mom! Runs in the family, it does. This quote's mostly for her:

"At the center of the universe is a loving heart that continues to beat and that wants the best for every person. Anything we can do to help foster the intellect and spirit and emotional growth of our fellow human beings, that is our job. Those of us who have this particular vision must continue against all odds."
