15 December 2005: Magic Billy

"Magic Billy in his wheelchair
Is picking up all this stuff in the air...
Billy is face to face with outer space."

- Roger Waters, "Radio Waves"

Hi Dad!

Scrivener's Sabbath is brilliant; it's my favorite compilation of yours so far, next to 100 Years of Solitude. I'm especially taken with the way tracks 3, 4, and 5 flow into each other (well, crash into each other in the case of the first two).

I'm glad "First We Take Manhattan" made it in; I love that song, but it didn't quite fit into any of my compilations.

The line about Magic Billy had been on my mind for a couple of days before your package arrived. Typical. Now it's on my mind even more. The recent action on the Shusekai email list may provide some clue as to what my life is like right now and why that line feels relevant; I wish I had time to write a journal entry about all the other manifestations of whatever is happening.

I still haven't had time to figure out what I'm doing on New Year's Eve, but I'm sure we'll end up somewhere.

Love,

Nick

Hi Nick!

Actually, it would be more interesting to end up nowhere.  I've never done that before, even when I slept through the beginning of the year.  Nowhere... perhaps a blank space that God didn't bother finishing because She didn't think anyone would look.

Love,

Old Cutter John
